Hello and welcome back to Dallas Maids! Like every year, we’re bringing you our updated Spring Cleaning guide for 2024.

Spring is just around the corner! This is such an exciting time of the year, especially in Dallas, TX. After a harsh winter, Spring always brings hot, sunny days to go out and enjoy Dallas.

Before we continue, don’t forget to check Dallas Maids! We offer professional cleaning services in Dallas, Frisco, Irving and other areas in DFW.

This time of the year is perfect to enjoy some quality time with our families. You have the Dallas Botanical Garden, the Klyde Warren Park or the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, among many other beautiful places.

That being said, if you want to tackle this on your own, let’s do it! Let’s make sure our home stays nice and clean for Spring.

Always Start Spring Cleaning With Decluttering

If you haven’t decluttered in a while, this is a great time.

First, completely empty your food storage area. Take a look at your items, and get rid of the expired stuff. Take of whatever’s expiring soon (in the next six months) and make sure to put it on the front to remember you need to use these items soon.

You can do the same for personal care items in your bathroom or makeup or makeup vanity.

In your living room, you might need to take down some décor and swap it with spring-themed items. This can go anywhere from frames and flower vases, to throw pillows and cushions.

You’re now transitioning your wardrobe from winter to spring and you may have old clothes. You also have drawers filled with random items that you don’t really use that often. and even a storage room or a garage that needs some organizing.

Wipe down your shelves with just a tiny spritz of water, a drop of dish soap, and white vinegar.

Organize Your Storage Areas

First things first in our spring cleaning guide: organize your storage areas. Storage areas are filled with dust and grime over time, especially in your kitchen and your bathroom. Besides, clutter creates visual noise and makes your home feel messy and dirty, even if it’s not.

A bit of decluttering and organizing is always helpful, at least once a quarter. We’re getting close to the end of March so this makes it the perfect opportunity to organize your pantry, your cleaning closet, your bathroom vanity and your bedroom closet.

Pro tip: put identical boxes with labels saying what goes inside. This way, everyone in your family knows the right location for your items and it helps you keep consistency.

Depending on your preferred strategy, you might want to clean first and then organize your items.

Organizing Items Before Spring cleaning

After Organizing, It’s Spring Cleaning Time!

Now that you’ve decluttered and organized your items. Gather all your cleaning products and start with your cleaning!

Pro tip: make sure you make a list of tasks for deep cleaning for areas where you normally don’t clean. Baseboards, bookshelves, ceiling fans, door frames.

Make sure you have a cleaning caddy ready with your cleaning products and supplies: microfiber cloths, floor cleaning tools (a broom, a mop, a bucket, and a vacuum cleaner).

Once your surfaces are clear, give them a good wipe-down. In this case, you can use a commercial multi-purpose cleaner to make everything sparkle. Eco-friendly cleaners are safe for most surfaces and decently effective against low-to-mid grime and dirt buildup.

Remember to start from the top. Wipe your open shelves, bookshelves, and upper kitchen cabinets. Then, your countertops, your dining table, TV stand, desks, side tables, and your bed.

Remember to Deep Clean Your Floors

Vacuuming is important for carpet floors. Do this on a zig-zag: walk to the opposite corner of the door of whatever room you’re in. Then, move forward with your vacuum cleaner, and then move backwards, but this time slide yourself to the right (or left) until you move half the width of your vacuum cleaner. Then, move forward again and repeat the process until you reach the door.

This way, you will vacuum the entire area twice and your floors will be nice and clean. Make sure you get into the corners and under the furniture as well.

If you haven’t deep cleaned your carpet floors (for 18 months or longer) consider hiring a professional cleaning service or renting an industrial carpet cleaner.

If you have tile floors, fill a bucket with warm, soapy water and use a rough brush to scrub everything away. Always follow the direction of the tile. If possible, use a steam cleaner to clean the grout as well and disinfect the area.

The Final Touch: A Spritz of Fragrance

With every year, our house cleaning tips change and it’s just not about actual cleaning anymore. Cleaning is also about having a tidy, pleasant space. For this Spring cleaning, let’s incorporate a nice fragrance into our homes!

Let’s improve air quality first. Opening windows is the best way to improve air circulation, but nowadays temperature is still extremely cold in many cities, such as Dallas and the rest of the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

If you can’t open windows right now, you can invest in an air purifier or a dehumidifier. Moisture often creates an unpleasant odor, especially around small, closed spaces like bathrooms and laundry areas. If this is the case in your home, you can get a dehumidifier to help balance out the excessive moisture.

An air purifier, on the other hand, absorbs the microbes and microscopic lint in the air. With fewer bacteria floating around, the smell in your home will improve as well.

Add some fragrant plants and flowers to your home! Spring is starting soon so this is the perfect time. They have long-lasting smells.

You can get a wax melter which is safer than scented candles.

Another route is potpourris. These are cheap, simple and easy to make. You just add as many dried herbs and citrus peels as you can find (e.g. orange peels, cinnamon, cloves, dried lavender…) to a pot filled with water. As long as it’s simmering, it will fill your kitchen and living area with a fresh, beautiful fragrance. Just remember to add water regularly and keep an eye on your stove.

If you plan to invite guests soon, these tips will be a huge plus. If you want more tricks, we recently collaborated in an Expert Roundup with Porch on tips to remove odors in your house before hosting a party, so feel free to check their article!

Conclusion

That’s it! Our favorite tips for this 2024 Spring Cleaning guide. We know everything has been said already but there’s always room for improvement and some bonus tips to give you a new perspective.

Dallas Maids - Want to Be Happy? Hire a Maid, Study Suggests

The New York Times recently published a story in their Science section on a tip for help you be happy. Here’s the title:

Want to Be Happy? Buy More Takeout and Hire a Maid, Study Suggests

As you know, science has already proven that a clean home makes you healthier and happier. But now, with this story, you’ll realize that on top of that, hiring a professional cleaning staff comes with additional benefits.

The researchers found that those that open their wallets to save time by hiring others to do less desirable chores actually improve happiness by reducing stress.

Ashley Whillans, an assistant professor at the Harvard Business School and lead author of the study, says “People who spent money to buy themselves time, such as by outsourcing disliked tasks, reported greater overall life satisfaction.”

If you think about it, it makes perfect sense. By putting these tasks in the hands of professionals, you’re gaining much more time and energy to dedicate to your personal growth and mental wellbeing.

Depending on how you run your household, you could easily spend 10 hours a week or more cleaning your home.

So science confirms. Dallas Maids makes you happy!

Dallas Maids - Overcoming Psychological Barriers & Finding a Failsafe Business Idea

What is your first thought when you drive pass a mansion with a meticulously manicured lawn and a couple exotic cars parked in the driveway? Just take a moment. And. Ponder… Was it along the lines of “Who did those people scam to get that!?” or was it “Good for them! It’s awesome that they can do that for them and their family”; was it positive or negative.

Don’t feel bad if it was negative because our minds are programmed from childhood to view money as bad. Sayings such as “Money doesn’t grow on trees”, “Money is the root of all evil”, “Money doesn’t buy happiness” permeate our society. These are the mottos of the monetarily mediocre. Next time you hear someone say “money doesn’t buy happiness”, ask them if they have lots of money. What do you think the answer will be? So the first step is to reprogram your subconscious mind to smash mediocrity and recognize money rocks!

Reprogram Your Subconscious.

Consciously, you may say to yourself you want to have a lots and lots of mullah. BUT if the subconscious believes the buck is bad then it will sabotage your money-making energies. Feelings of doubt and thoughts of “this business idea won’t work” or “I don’t have what it takes” surfaces and freezes you before taking that first step. The subconscious is not evil [pans over to villain with a devilish chuckle calmly petting cat]; it simply does not want you to do what it perceives as bad. So how do you change its perception?

There are many psychology-based books that are dedicated to reprogramming your mind. Read them. Anyway, one of the universal attributes among all the autobiographies I have read are great people love to read. So develop your desire to dive into books and be more successful. Reading is enjoyable, it enriches your life. Barbara Bush once said she can’t imagine life without reading. So as you seek self-improvement through reading let’s talk about the easiest way to attain 100% financial freedom.

Start a Business.

The easiest way to become rich is to own a scalable, self-sustainable company, developing policies and procedures so that your people will know what to do when you’re absent. Otherwise, if it cannot survive without you then you don’t own a business, you own a job.

And that is just blaaah! There are many books that teach you how to develop a system, policies and procedures, etc that allow a business to run smoothly. So how do you find an awesome idea? Glad you asked!

Have a Failsafe Idea.

Having a business was what I wanted. I wanted it SO bad that it became ingrained in my mind. My now subconscious had a goal and started producing ideas per its own schedule: driving in my car, waking up in the middle of the night, or sitting on the toilet (pardon the visual), the ideas that unexpectedly spring forth are the best because your subconscious has been analyzing the data behind the scenes, making numerous calculations, finishes, and then floats the fabulous ideas to your consciousness. It’s like having your own personal supercomputer do the work.

After a year or so I had a long list of good ideas. And the way to have a great idea is to have many ideas. Looking at the list I quickly zeroed on ideas I felt would work. Then the idea I KNEW would work popped out: Maid Service. You must have the FEELING that you know it can’t fail for feelings are the subconscious’ way to communicate with you. Using your subconscious makes life so much easier.

At that point, I quit my job so I had no crutch to fall back on and jumped in 100%. It was sink or swim. I swam. It was the BEST business decision I ever made. I was finally free…

Freedom!

It’s the freedom that makes you happy; money is just a nice side benefit. Like many I’ve talked to here: I wasn’t after the money. Rather I wanted to build a good business while being free of someone other person determining my livelihood, whether I was promoted, or even had a job (now that’s risk!).

Having good intentions, knowing the universe will provide all that’s needed, that you already have all within yourself to succeed, and every day you are getting better and better; this is the right mindset for success. Positive energy.

Negative Energy Sucks.

Negative energy sucks out motivation. At first no one knew what I was doing, not my family, not my friends, no one, until the business was established. I kept things hushed because people would discourage me, ask why give up a “safe” career to mop floors (with retrospective realization, there was no risk). Even after word got out, word came in such as “You should sell the maid service and find a real job” or “are you still doing that house cleaning stuff?”.

You can be the most confident person though humans are highly suggestible. What others say sink into the subconscious so protect it sacredness. You need to set consciously your own goals less others do it for you. As time went by I defriended pessimistic friends. I seek optimism. Today it’s the same with my businesses: negative, nasty customers are fired, resulting in less stressed, more productive people and a stronger businesses.

Life is good. Money is good.

You deserve to have freedom. I hope this helps and encourages you to take action to achieve your dream. You are blessed to experience this sliver of life in our little corner of the universe between two inconceivable infinities. Make the most of it! Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right”
