What a year it has been. Truly. Someone remarked to me recently that 2024 was just 2020 but without the pandemic. I know for us it felt like good and bad moments on steroids. Sometimes existing side-by-side. I think a lot of our customers have felt that this year. Moments of sheer joy. And moments of deep sadness. Often simultaneous.

And we’ve been through it all somehow, together.

I’ll never forget a story a friend told me once. He was just getting settled into a new area. Long time friends and family were in faraway places and he was starting over. He got involved in a local group. He started to make friends and feel at ease. Then, as life would have it, his world unraveled seemingly overnight. He mustered the courage to talk to one of his new friends. While he sobbed quietly his friend said something profound. “You got your butt handed to you. But we’ll get through it, together.” My friend said he had never felt so comforted. In a moment of isolation and hardship, he was reminded that he really wasn’t as alone as he felt.

Such a simple word we use with such deep meaning. Together.

Together we celebrated 20 years of business at Dallas Maids in 2024. Together we were welcomed into your homes on good days and bad to do our work. Together we shared stories with you. Together we laughed. Together we gossiped and spilled the tea from time to time (metaphorically of course). And together we supported each other on our bad days too. Whether it was with a hug or a conversation or just a job well done creating a clean home amidst all the chaos of life, we lived life together this year.

As we prepare to celebrate family, friends and the life we each lived in 2024 in the next few weeks, I wanted to pause for a moment and say how grateful I am that you have let us experience this year together. Whatever your plans over the last weeks of the year, I hope you’ll know and remember that we are grateful we spent this year together. Good and bad. Highs and lows.

As the year wraps up, I always like to treat our team with stories and compliments from our customers. This year, I thought it would be fun to supercharge that experience by crowdsourcing even more stories from each of you. Now through the end of Christmas week (12/30 to be exact), if you will send us a shout out, kudos, compliment, or encouraging word or story about one of our staff this year in an email, on our Facebook, or a card, we’ll send you a $25.00 gift card. Share in a video and allow us to upload to our YouTube channel, we’ll make it a $100.00 gift card! There’s no catch or gimmick here. We just want our team to remember that we’re all living this thing called life together and that while they may not see you each time they come to your home, you think about them, their work, and their lives too.

Wishing you joy, peace, and a sparkling home this holiday season – Happy Holidays!

Dallas Maids - Merry Christmas from Dallas Maids!

Merry Christmas from Dallas Maids! With just a few short hours before the big day, we all hope you’re enjoying the season with some mirth, laughter, and a good deal of fudge.

This nostalgic time of year always gets to me. It seems to be nature’s way of telling us to slow down and rest. Our ancestors certainly thought so.

The grueling labor of the spring planting, summer caretaking, and fall harvesting were over. For them it was a time to pause, enjoy the bounty and provision of the year, and reflect. The work is over, be still.

Our world has come a long way from those agricultural traditions and rhythms. But their message still holds power. The work of the year, whatever it may be, slows down. Long nights at work or out are typically replaced with warm fireplace chats, parties, and time with those we love. It’s a beautiful time to reflect and enjoy the bounty of the year.

A Lot to Be Grateful For

This year, we have had a lot to be grateful for. We were talking the other day as a team and I was overwhelmed by the stories of our staff. We work hard, yes. And we stake our reputation on it. But we’ve been blown away by the kindness of our customers.

From festive cookies at Halloween and Thanksgiving to writing heartfelt Christmas cards for our staff, you are amazing customers! We even have customers that pay for cleanings they cancel last minute, just to make sure their ladies are compensated despite the last-minute schedule change.

As I survey the year, it’s heartwarming to reflect on acts of kindness, generosity, and joy we share with you. To remember the hard work and have so many examples of customers who appreciate our business. As you get ready to celebrate Christmas and the New Year, I hope you’ll have a moment to reflect on nature’s way of calling us to be still. A moment to reflect on all the hard work and all the provision of the year.

Once again, Merry Christmas from all of us at Dallas Maids! We wish you a happy, hearty, fudge-filled Holiday and joyous New Year.

Dallas Maids - Let's Talk for a Minute

Let’s talk for a minute…

If you’re like me, that phrase sends chills up your spine. My immediate response is “what’s wrong?” or “what did I do?”

Don’t worry, no one’s in trouble. I have good news.

With the nostalgia of the holidays fresh on my mind, I’ve been reflecting on the last two years. I was talking to my friend from Florida the other day and she made a funny comment. She said, “We’ve all been through so much. The last three years have been a class on collective grief and loss. Ask someone what’s happened since the pandemic started and they’ll get a glossy look on their eyes.”

Funny right? We all survived. We made it through. But it’s all a haze. This experience we went through which we’ve collectively kind of muted from our memory. We know it happened. That cannot be forgotten. But the specifics feel hazy, nebulous, fuzzy. It’s a weird experience that unites us. We know it happened. It was recent, but the memory is hard to pin down.

Unless we work to dust if off. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been reminded of so much I can be grateful for in my life. My wife, my kids. My business, my staff. You.

Candidly, we’re here because of our hard work AND your support. Covid hit and we were thrown against the ropes. So many of you paid for services that you didn’t receive. So many of you helped us stay afloat.

With things calming down, we’ve been able to move forward. We haven’t just stayed in business; we’ve grown. Your support in promoting us, in sharing with your neighbors, friends, and coworkers, has helped us not just survive but thrive.

With that in mind, this Thanksgiving, I want to say thank you and offer a small gift of appreciation. We are not raising prices anytime soon.

I belong to a group of business owners that meets regularly. In one of our recent gatherings, one owner remarked that raising prices now was kind of expected. Inflation, social unrest, general societal uncertainty. Everyone expects to pay more right now.

But we aren’t doing that. Why? First and foremost because it’s the right thing to do. We run an efficient business and your loyalty deserves a reprieve from all the higher prices these days. Above all other factors, it’s the right thing to do to hold our prices where they are. A recent congressional testimony revealed that 54% of higher prices is driven by corporate greed. Businesses just want to make more money. Well, some do. We could raise prices, but we aren’t going to. Why? Because that’s not right. That’s not who we are. And you don’t deserve to pay more just “because.”

Secondly, I want to encourage gratitude in our community. Did you know that positive online reviews lead to bonuses and extra accolades for our team? If you leave a positive Google review for your cleaning associate or team, it means something. We reward quality work. It’s not just “nice.” It means recognition here. We pay for performance. We acknowledge hard, quality work. And you can let us know when that happens.

I could go on and on. But I won’t. With Thanksgiving just days away, I want to extend a heartfelt Thank You. We’ve all been through a lot. You. Your family. Our community. And yet here we are, still moving forward. It hasn’t been easy or neat or clean or tidy. Life is messy. But here we are, plowing forward together. And while life is messy, we are grateful you let us make your home a little less so. From myself and the entire team, we wish you a very bright and happy Thanksgiving.

Happy Holidays and with deep gratitude,

Greg and the Dallas Maids Team
